Utility scale solar development

Delta South Energy develops practical utility scale solar projects in Alabama. The current flagship is a 20 MW solar park moving toward a long term PPA under a regulated 5 to 200 MW renewable procurement framework, in a federal Energy Community.

Focused on clear utility alignment, solid sites, and disciplined early spend.

20 MW Alabama solar park

Status. Active development.

Target size. About 20 MW.

Offtake. Long term regulated utility PPA under the 5 to 200 MW renewable program.

Interconnection. Transmission level preferred with scope in review.

Energy Community. Federal Energy Community location, supporting improved IRA economics.

Current work includes:

  • Resource planning and coordination with the utility team.
  • Early interconnection scoping and path through cluster studies.
  • Site control pathways and local engagement.
  • Preliminary environmental and engineering screens.
  • Developer funded early stage work to maintain control and keep spend disciplined.

Development priorities

1. Clear utility alignment

Projects are structured for regulated utility territory with avoided cost components, premium pricing where appropriate, and defined steps toward commission approval. The goal is a project that fits how the utility actually procures power, not a one off exception.

2. Strong site fundamentals

Sites are chosen based on proximity to load, realistic land control, constructibility, simple access, and zoning paths that make sense. Interconnection is treated as a central question, not an afterthought.

Typical filters include:

  • Ability to support a 10 to 20 MW scale project or larger.
  • Reasonable access to transmission or a clear interconnection path.
  • Local support and simple or achievable zoning.

3. Efficient, disciplined project spend

Early utility and interconnection costs are funded at the developer level. This keeps the project developer controlled, avoids spreading early risk across too many parties, and protects partners from spending against unclear sites.

The goal is simple. Spend enough to answer the real questions without trying to underwrite the entire project before it is ready.

Additional pipeline in Alabama

In addition to the flagship 20 MW project, Delta South Energy is evaluating multiple additional sites in the 10 to 20 MW range across Alabama. These locations are in different stages of environmental review, utility screening, and local discussions.

The aim is to build a small but high quality pipeline that can move through the same regulated process with repeatable structures rather than reinventing the approach each time.

Team and approach

Delta South Energy operates with an execution first mindset. The same operator view used on affordable housing portfolios is applied to utility scale work. The focus is on a small number of projects that can move forward with clear roles and simple capital structures.

How we work:

  • Developer funded early stage utility and interconnection work.
  • Local survey, engineering, and environmental partners where needed.
  • Direct communication with utilities and local officials.
  • Coordination with EPC teams who know the region.
  • Discipline on site selection, zoning, and cost structure.
